PROCEDURE & EXPLANATION

Begin the session by asking the questions related to the number system and their method of writing on the number line. Now introduce the topic number system step by step as follows.

Introduction

Teacher should start the chapter by giving introduction of the number system. Teacher should provide the information of the complete family of number system, their meaningful definitions with examples and complete explanation.

Different types of Numbers

Here teacher may include the following numbers : Natural Numbers (N), Whole Numbers (W), Integers (Z), Rational Numbers (Q), Irrational Numbers (S), Real Numbers.

Teacher may explain the different types of natural numbers also like Odd Numbers, Even Numbers, Prime Numbers, Composite Numbers, Co-Prime Numbers, and Twin Prime Numbers.

Different types of Decimals

Now teacher will introduce the concept of different types of decimals.

Different types of decimals, like

  • terminating decimals,
  • non-terminating but repeating decimals,
  • non-terminating non repeating decimals,
  • rational and irrational decimals.

Teacher should explain the definitions of different types of decimals with complete explanations and examples.

Writing the numbers in p/q form

Now teacher should explain the method of writing the given number in the p/q form. This method can be explained by taking different examples.

Explain the method of writing different rational and irrational numbers on the number line.

Explain the method of representing the irrational numbers on the number line like : √2, √3, √5, √7, etc.

Explain the method of representing the irrational numbers like √7.5, √8.5, etc. on the number line.

Now teacher should introduce the method of rationalizing the denominator of the type

Explain the concept of exponents and radicals by taking some examples. Teacher may test the knowledge of the students by giving them some similar problems in the class
STUDENTS DELIVERABLES:-
  • Review questions given by the teacher.
  • Students can prepare the presentation on the topic representation of irrational numbers on the number line or making the square root spiral .
  • Solve NCERT problems with examples.
  • Solve assignment given by the teacher.
EXTENDED LEARNING:-

Students can extend their learning by studying basic concepts and formulas of mathematics through the Resource Centre Mathematics and can find interesting topics on mathematics at the site  https://www.cbsemathematics.com/

Students can also extend their leaning by watching this topic on video.

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES:-

Assignment sheet will be given as home work at the end of the topic. Separate sheets which will include questions of logical thinking and Higher order thinking skills will be given to the above average students.
Class Test , Oral Test , worksheet and Assignment. can be made the part of assessment.
Re-test(s) will be conducted on the basis of the performance of the students in the test.
